Working as a freelance writer can be very rewarding and exciting career. One of the major skills needed to become a successful freelance writer is the ability to locate clients for work. There are several opportunities available to freelance writers online to find new writing assignments. Here are five great job boards for freelance writers to get you started.

oDesk

oDesk is an online marketplace company that allows companies to post a variety of job openings. One of the popular job categories on this website is freelance writing. Writers are able to apply or bid for job postings on oDesk and get paid for their services through the system as well. Employers and applicants are able to sign up on the website for free. However, oDesk takes a fee of 10 percent of all payments.

ProBlogger

ProBlogger is another excellent job board to find writing opportunities. The site has a job section that is updated throughout the week with new writing jobs in areas such as blogging and SEO writing. Since this website is very popular, you have to act fast when you see a job opening that you are interested in. It is also a great place to learn more about blogging and talk with other bloggers in the industry as well.

Elance

Similar to oDesk, Elance is another online marketplace company that allows employers and freelance writers to find each other. The company does charge a fee to the employers to post job listings. The applicants have the option to have a free account or pay a monthly fee for their account along with additional services. One of the perk of this website is they offer a guarantee that you will be paid for your writing services.

Guru

Guru is known as the largest online marketplace for freelance work. This website allows freelance writers to find work in all types of fields such as writing and editing. Like Elance, they also offer a guarantee of payment for your work using an escrow account, which is optional. The website does charges between 5 to 10 percent of each invoice as a fee. Other fees may apply based on the services you use on the website.

Craigslist

Craigslist is also a great website to find freelance writing jobs. Companies from all over the United States posted their job listing for full-time, part-time, or contract writers on the site. Some writers have had some great success on finding private clients using this method.
When using these websites to find your clients, you should always do your research before you start any job. It is important to make sure the job is legit before you provide any personal information, so do your homework before providing any personal information to potential employers or new clients.

  1. This is a great list of job boards, thanks for sharing. What are your thoughts about FreeLancer dot com? I know many hate it, then again, many do love it 🙂

  2. @DiTesco The CEO of freelancer.com Matt Barrie is a great guy who occasionally emails me. True that there are some failings with the site, but all in all, Freelancer.com has flattened the area and offers everyone the same equal opportunity in finding an online job.

    Thanks

Have new information about online marketing and all you can do to work and earn money online is always welcome, so I find this post is excellent and I think that would help me in my online business because you did not know some key and will be good to study it, thank you very much and keep up, bye

  4. For moms (work at home moms, or mommy bloggers) I would recommend SocialMoms.com They connect bloggers with paid blogging opportunities. A lot of times they are gift cards instead of cash.

  5. Hi I am a freelance writer and my favorite place is vworker.com and I think, it deserves a place in top 10 at least. Thanks for sharing the top sites.

  6. • Thank you very much for this great list. Personally I’m using freelancermap, which is an international IT-project board where freelancers and outsourcing providers can register for free and apply without limitation. Nice to know: No commission fees!
Maybe this post would help other freelancers to find a great job!
